On December 7, 2023, Richard “Rick” Garner attained his ultimate goal as he stepped out of this world and into the throne room of God. Rick passed away at the age of 79 after a long-fought battle with COPD. We know he heard the words “Well done, My good and faithful servant.” Rick was born on June 21, 1944, to Richard and Audrey Nell Garner in Lampasas, TX. He grew up in Alamogordo, NM, where his parents owned the Trend Shop and his father served as mayor. Rick served as a general contractor and then began working for the United States Postal Service and became the Postmaster in Ft. Sumner, NM in 1988, where he served until 2006. He loved spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking, could often be found leading the charge of some silly scheme with a gleam in his eye, and was never without his humor. More than anything, He loved God and sought to lead others to follow God and the Bible. Although he became a believer later in life, he diligently studied the Word of God as a scholar. Any conversation you had with Rick always turned back to God, Jesus, or the Gospel. Rick is survived by his wife Joy Garner of Bedford, TX, and children Shane (Maria) Garner, Corey (Kimberly) Garner, Rees McWright, and Ashlee (Greg) Garcia along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service in honor of Rick will be held at 11:00 AM on January 6, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Texico, NM. Rick’s ashes will be buried at 11:00 AM on January 8, 2024, in the Garner family plot at Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo, NM.

Joy, although I only met Rick one time, I could tell he loved his family and the Lord. I can only imagine what he must be doing now in the presence of Jesus. I know you will miss him terribly, and will always
