Rev. Janice Wardean Holster Matthews was born on June 29th, 1949 in Crockett, TX to A.J. Holster and Norma D. Pike, and grew up in Houston, TX.

Janice accepted Christ at an early age, and was first ordained as a minister by Mac Watson at 16 years old. She never met a stranger and ministered to others everywhere she went. As a young adult, she demonstrated an excellent work ethic, and quickly worked her way up to retail management positions where she continued to work until the time of her retirement.

Janice loved and served the Lord throughout her entire life. Preaching the gospel, serving others, and loving her family were her constant priorities. She taught innumerable Sunday School classes, and frequently played the organ and piano at nearly any church that needed her help. She loved to sing and praise the Lord through music.

During her retirement years, Janice used her creative gifts to make hundreds of baby quilts embroidered with bible verses & prayers for almost every new baby she encountered. Janice wasn’t one to use her retirement to fulfill her own dreams and desires. She regularly volunteered at First United Methodist Church of Bedford through their Project Help Program, and stepped-in as a guest speaker in times of need at many local churches.

Janice Matthews departed this life unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 30th, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her siblings, Andrew Norman Holster, Alma Victoria Hull, and Doris Holster; her husbands, Jackie Sterling Yearout, Bertrand Allan Holleman, and George Matthews; her step-son, Royce Allan Holleman, and several infant grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her step-mother, Juanita Holster; her siblings, Jeannette Jones (Darrell), Michael Holster, Jimmy Kyle Holster, Arthur Paul Jordan, Martha Ann Jordan, Barbara Lyles, and Eddie Jordan; her children, Robert Henry Hull, Cheryl Ruth Sharp (Brian), and Norma Jean Plank (David Scott); her stepchildren, Peggy Holleman Thomas & Jeanette Smith; her grandchildren, Jerry Smith, Adasia Blazek (Joseph), Elizabeth Allen (Alberto Mendoza), Roxanne Quinlan (Taylor), Daniel Horn, James Arthur Allen III (Carley), Jessica Shelton (Kyle), Samuel Sutton, Jackie Belowski (Raymond), Aaron Horn, David Horn, Eleena Hull, Eli Hull, Cassidy Osbourne, and 10 living great-grandchildren and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Family will welcome guests for a visitation at 5:00pm Saturday, December 4, 2021 at City on a Hill Church, 1140 Morrison Drive, Fort Worth, Tx 76120 with a funeral ceremony to follow at 6:00pm.
