Caron Faye (Weston) New, 79, an adored and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed from this life on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at her home in Granbury, Texas. She was born in Sayre, Oklahoma on March 20, 1943, to Clifford L. Weston and Flossie Ruth (Kingham) Weston. She was a twin and the third of seven siblings to survive infancy. Caron initially lived on a farm at Meridian, Oklahoma, but moved into the town of Sweetwater at the age of one when her father was drafted into World War II. At the end of the war, her family moved to the Puryear Ranch until 1950. Caron started school at Sweetwater School until her family moved back to Meridian to live on her grandparents’ farm. She attended Meridian School until it closed in 1956, and then transferred to Sweetwater School until she graduated from high school in 1961.
Caron was a go-getter her entire life. As a youngster, she worked hard on her family farm and for their neighbors in cotton, maize, and broomcorn fields. She also worked in the school cafeteria during high school to help ends meet. Shortly after high school Caron married the love of her life, Gerald (Jerry) New. They made their home in Sayre with their daughter Charolette. In the early years of marriage, Caron held multiple jobs while attending Sayre Junior College. She graduated with honors from Sayre Junior College and worked for approximately 20 years at Sayre Memorial Hospital where she helped convert the hospital from paper ledgers to computers—first punch cards, then magnetic tape, then floppy disks. While working full-time at the hospitals in Sayre and later Elk City, Caron continued her college education by traveling over 100 miles round trip for college classes. After 25 years of attending college the hard way, she graduated with honors from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1986, just one day before her daughter graduated with honors at the University of Oklahoma. After college she served as the business manager at Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite, Oklahoma, where she retired to spend time traveling around the world and, most importantly, to be closer to her beloved grandson Andrew. You cannot imagine a more doting grandmother. She is certainly missed.
Caron was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Deanna Crawford, and her twin sister Sharon Shirley (who passed on December 3, 2022). She is survived by her husband Jerry of the home; her daughter Charolette Noel (and son-in law Alan) of Granbury, Texas; her grandson Andrew Noel of Huntsville, Alabama; her siblings Clifford Stanley Weston (and his wife Kay) of Lubbock, Texas; Linda Hartley of Austin, Texas; Holly Whitten (and her husband Tom) of Winter Park, Colorado; and Mark Weston (and his wife Sha) of Cotopaxi, Colorado; and many extended family and friends. Graveside services for the inurnment will take place at Delhi Cemetery near Sayre, Oklahoma on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon at UrbanHouse on Main Street in Sayre.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Caron’s memory to First Baptist Church of Reydon, PO Box 116, Reydon, OK 73662.
